Project X Presents is now set up both as a group and a persona on facebook, so if you are too, do please hit us up, it’ll be a great way to keep in touch.

One thing you’ll find on our page is a media player with some music from various Project X Participants (and more to come) – it also features an excerpt from Radio To Go – an excellent podcast featuring fine music and informed comment on the Midlands music scene from Robin Valk – a key player himself on the scene for many years.

The most recent issue features a very engaging review from Robin of an early part of our recent event which has proven a favourite with audience and participants alike – the transition from Rich Batsford’s contemporary piano music, through a section featuring string quartet and solo cello, thence via a short piano break to Einstellung’s acoustic set which melded seamlessly into the Qawwali style set from Aashiq al Rasul. But Robin describes it much, much better than that, so do check it out.

Reviews of our 2007 show

Some reviews are in from the show – with hopefully a couple more to come:

First a preview from John Mitchell in the Guardian Guide who talks about how we include aroma amongst our “sensual attractions” and refers to “a great roster of acts”.

The most detailed review to emerge so far is from Stefan Kucharczyk in the Birmingham Post “With a disturbing, lurching assault on the senses, Project X is an intelligent and unique show destabilising the established role of the “spectator” in performance theatre and drawing you into an impressively eclectic and complex mix of art forms”. full article including Gigbeth comment here.

The local blogging community have been at work too – Project X Participant Marc Reck reported in after the dress rehearsal and again just before the show and once more after the main event.

Rich Batsford also offered up a review of the dress rehearsal.

Robin Valk speaks of “Enormous, generous and involved musicianship that jumped boundaries effortlessly.” in his commentary.

Joanna Geary comments that “the night summed up what Birmingham is capable of when it pulls its cultures and its talent together. It’s something we need to do much more of and it’s great to see people in the city trying to make it happen.”

Dr Andy Pryke offers some brief comment and nice pics from the dress rehearsal of what he refers to as “multi-faceted box of delights”.

Jon Bounds of the website “Birmingham Its Not Shit gives a brief thumbs up to “the effort put into Project X” in his round of favourite things from Gigbeth.

Pete Ashton picks up on Matt Murtagh’s fine photographic work in our “quite marvelous 6 hour onmi-media performance marathon” and wisely suggests you view the images “as a slideshow with music from Einstellung’s MySpace playing.”

Meanwhile on Pete’s “Created in Birmingham” blog he points to Matt Murtaghs fine set of photos of the evening as a whole.

Pete also links to his own evocative photos taken using what he describes as his “through the viewfinder contraption“.

We also have our own group up on flickr where you can see some of our own photos particularly of the build in production week and the after show party.

If you want to view all the photos of our events on flickr just search for everything tagged with “projectxpresents – there are 589 to choose from at the time of writing.

If you were at the event and have reviewed in any way, or would like to, then do please contact us on “info at projectxpresents dot com”

Radio To Go Podcast

Written by: admin at 4:53 pm -

We have received an encouraging mention on the July edition of the Radio To Go podcast.

This is a fine podcast featuring music from the Birmingham and West Midlands region, put together by a very experienced Radio DJ called Robin Valk.

Robin is kind enough to describe Project X Presents as “Hugely interesting … a multi-media deal which takes a lot of organisation” before going on to drop some tantalising hints about directions we are planning to explore with our next event before going on to say “It really is a big deal and its really worth following”.
