A few years ago a band called Lash Frenzy took to the stage at a packed Flapper & Firkin.

Lash Frenzy is a sound art project from Birmingham musician Andrew Moscardo-Parker. Under the name Lash Fenzy Andrew has an outlet for the more unstructured elements of the Black Sabbath influenced song writing and performance techniques that he has been perfecting (with some considerable success!) since the fateful day many years ago when he first heard Tony Iommi’s detuned powerchords.

In 2007 Andrew’s involvement with Project X Presents (as a member of Einstellung) led him to revive Lash Frenzy. Discussions about Einstellung’s contributions resulted in PXP’s invitation for Andrew to curate an Aural Fight sequence for the 2007 show. The result featured Andrew and his Matamp amplifier (as well as the rest of Einstellung’s arsenal of valve driven analogue backline) “against” Mort The Sonic – a digital musician who converts text and image files to sound on his lap top and amplifies the resulting industrial tones.

Video killed the radio star

When I was trying to get media coverage for last year’s Project X Presents event one of the calls I made was to Resonance 104.4 Fm. I thought that the Project X Presents story would be of interest as a five minute item on someone else’s show. Resonance were indeed interested in what we were up to but they suggested that I make a programme myself. “Ok, no problem, I’ll deliver it in three months” I said, “I’ve made loads of radio programmes before” I lied. So I put the phone down and wondered how on earth I was going to deliver an hour of radio documentary in 90 days.

With a little help I managed to do it and the results were praised by the staff at Resonance as well as media professionals that I’m not related to. All this was most gratifying and a perfect example of the Project X Presents ethos of peer development in action.
